Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) Injections
Following correspondence in the press on 23/06/2025 that Mounjaro jabs would be available at GP surgeries, please be aware that this is not something which our practice, or any others within South Yorkshire are currently able to prescribe.
Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) for weight management is currently traffic lighted red, which means that it is not suitable for primary care (GP surgeries) to prescribe. This is due to the Integrated Care Board (ICB) not having the infrastructure to support with wrap around care when the jabs are prescribed.
When these jabs do become available (which may not be until 2026) there will be a strict criteria which will need to be met in order to qualify for a prescription.
This includes-:
• Having a BMI greater than 40
• Having 4 or more qualifying conditions from the following-:
hypertension, dyslipidaemia (high levels of fatty compounds in the blood), obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
